Nicole Porter, District Manager of Montana, started her career in 2005. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Resource Forest Management from the University of Montana. Nicole is also a member of the Society of American Foresters and a Certified Tree Farm Inspector.

Why did you pursue a career in forestry? Being outdoors extensively is a way of life when you grow up in Montana, as I did. I knew from an early age that I did not want to have an “office” job. I wanted to be out in nature, where I could explore all the wonders that the wild Rockies have to offer. Working in the woods brings enjoyment and peace. Like my old boss used to say, “A bad day in the field is always better than a good day in the office!”

What do you like the most about your role with AFM? What I like most about working for AFM is the opportunity to engage with new landowners and visit different areas of Montana that I have not explored. It is very rewarding to be invited to people’s homes and properties and help them achieve their goals and objectives related to forest management.
