Jimmy Murphy

Jimmy Murphy, Area Manager in Meridian, Mississippi, started his career in 1991. He has an associate's degree in Forestry from Lake City Community College in Lake City, Florida. Jimmy is a Registered Forester in South Carolina and an American Tree Farm Qualified Inspector.

Why did you pursue a career in forestry? My father was a Forester, and I was able to work with him some over my youthful summers. The outdoors has always been a great place for me to get away and find a peaceful place. I get great enjoyment providing a service for private landowners and investment properties, helping them with their needs and dreams. To be able to see trees grow from the time they are planted until the time they are harvested feels like a great accomplishment, and knowing I had a part to play in those trees' journey.

What do you like the most about your role with AFM? I have worked for AFM for 26 years. My job has a lot of different activities, from all the normal field duties to managing other employees and making sure we are all working as a team. I get to meet new people all the time, from clients to contractors and even new employees within the company. I like to be a part of something that is growing and changing. I hardly ever get bored doing the same thing day in and day out because there is so much going on. Although I like to have a work schedule, there is always something that pops up that needs to be done and changes that schedule, so I am flexible. Although I work by myself most of the time, I feel like I have people around me who can help with any issues that arise. AFM has a good network of people.
