Forest Management, Real Estate, Timberland Investment Services, Land, Timber & Timber Sales are just a few of the services offered by American Forest Management

American Forest Management, Inc. offers a myriad of services, which fall under Operating Group categories such as: Forest and Land Management, Real Estate Services, Investment Services, Appraisal Services, Environmental Management and Technical and Data Services. AFM currently manages over 1.5 million acres for institutional investors and private non-industrial landowner clients. This full management acreage has grown significantly since the 1990’s as institutional investors have increased their participation in the timberland ownership arena. Currently there is no one dominant client, as the management is owned by a broad base of large and small landowners.

Personnel

American Forest Management’s extensive staff includes registered foresters with four-year degrees from SAF accredited colleges and universities, as well as advanced degrees including PhDs, MFs, and MBAs. It also employs certified general real estate appraisers and an MAI appraiser, multi-state licensed real estate brokers, timberland experts, forest data management specialists, and an experienced administrative support team.

History

In 1966, Bartow S. Shaw, Jr. formed Bartow ShawBo Shaw, Real Estate, Timberland Investment, Land, Timber Sales by American Forest Management and Associates to provide consulting services for non-industrial private forestland owners. The company gradually added foresters and forest technicians to meet an expanding client base. In 1983 and 1984, Frank McLeod III and Roy Belser became stockholders in Shaw, McLeod and Belser. In 1987, Shaw, McLeod and Belser acquired the Hurlbutt firm in Walterboro, South Carolina. In 2002, SMBH acquired Canal Forest Resources, a consulting firm focusing primarily on land and data management for Timberland Investment Management Organizations. In January 2003, SMBH merged with Canal Forest Resources to form American Forest Management, Inc. (AFM). AFM is one of the largest forest resource consulting and management firms in the US providing a complete range of forestry services for a wide variety of clients.
